Colin turned a corner, eyes looking over the stones, a hand stretched outwards, running fingers over the stones carefully, feeling each bump and groove in the stones. He came to an intersection and turned left, his hand dropping down to side, his head dropping down to watch his feet as he walked, hunching over slightly, trying to look inconspicuous.

He wanted to go home, he wanted to see his Mum and his Dad before he died here, just like Dennis had. That’d be funny, in an ironic way, him dying because of the castle that his brother tried so vainly to build. He was sure that no one else would see it that way, but he really didn’t know how to see it anyway else. He couldn’t allow himself to be sad, that wasn’t a good thing. Sad people became depressed and made mistakes, and besides, everything always turned out good in the end.

He rounded another corner and continued to walk, watching as his feet took one step in front of the other, lost in his own thoughts.

Percy was still numb from the news Penelope gave him that he almost didn't notice the vines had disappeared when he stepped outside his room. It wasn't until a few feet that the absence of something was noticed, but Percy couldn't even bring himself to muster a smile when he realised what was missing. There couldn't be any hurrah of relief or victory. How could there be? The vines were gone, but so was Headmistress McGonagall.

He really didn't even know where he was going, just that he needed to walk. He needed to stop thinking, and usually walking was a more effective remedy than reading, writing, and sitting in a silence he normally would have enjoyed. His feet were the only ones that seemed to know where he was going, since they were the ones moving him. Did he really just personify his feet?

"Bugger," he breathed, unaware he wasn't alone until he saw a shadow in the torchlight on the flagstone floor. "Oh, pardon me, I didn't mean to - " But it wasn't a student. "Mr. Creevey?" Percy squinted uncertainly.

Colin looked up, slightly startled at the sound of a voice but he relaxed easily enough, a small smile breaking out on his face at the thought of company. “Colin,” he replied automatically. “It’s Colin,” he repeated, in case the other man didn’t get it the first time.

He leaned in a little closer looking at the man, recognition flittering across his face. “And you’re Percy Weasley, right?” he asked, hoping he had gotten the right brother. He knew Ginny, and Ron and the twins slightly and that really was about it, he knew of the others and kind of remembered Percy, but not his face, more his mannerisms.

“How’re you?” he asked, clasping his hands behind his back and rocking back and fourth on his heels.

"Right." Percy's arms fell awkwardly at his sides, and as if unsure where to go and what to do, his hands curled before diving into his pockets. He hadn't been expecting to stop for a chat with anyone, let alone with someone he thought was going mad. If not already there.

"I'm.." Confused. Mentally exhausted. Numb. "I've been better," Percy decided on carefully, finally.

Penelope had made him promise not to tell anyone, and he intended to keep his word. He certainly wouldn't babble on to someone he hardly knew.

"Yourself, Colin?" He asked, the informality leaving his lips like something foreign.

Colin shrugged. "I'm sure everyones been better, what with the vines, but they'll be gone soon, we go some good people here so don't you worry about it," he said with a beaming smile.

Colin blinked, a little shocked that someone would ask him how he was, especially someone he had gone to school with. "Alright I guess, I've been better really. I mean I miss my Ma and my Dad, and Dennis but I'll see them soon!" he said with unwavering conviction and hope before frowning.

"Well hopefully not Dennis because that would be a bad thing, for me, not to see him, seeing him would be good, but for me to die wouldn't be a good thing," he said quickly.

An eyebrow winged up expressively.

"It seems someone already took care of the vines. Did you not notice? They're gone." Percy couldn't stop himself from looking around, as if to double-check for himself. It was all too mind-numbingly surreal.

Thankfully, the vines were still gone.

"Er, yes," Percy agreed awkwardly, turning to face Colin again. He didn't know what to say. A professional should be talking to Colin, not him. "That would be bad. Seeing your brother, I mean."

Colin frowned and then blinked. “Really?” he asked, having missed seeing the lack of vines. He turned his head, looking around the hallway as if he could see through the walls and outside.

“I really didn’t notice,” he said with a grin and a shrug. “Well that’s a good thing! So everyone is okay! Nothing to worry about!” he said with his usual optimism.

He shrugged. “Well, I mean it would be sort of neat if Dennis was a ghost for a bit, that could be fun talking to him again. But he got in enough trouble as a kid, who knows what he’d do now that he isn’t solid. Nothing would be safe!”

Percy nearly slipped and argued. To think they had nothing to worry about from this point onward was laughable but not in the least mirthful. The Headmistress was gone, the students were going to be terrified, the portraits were still bloody, and Pansy had reverted back to being a fifteen year-old. Literally. He could see nothing to be optimistic about like Colin, but Percy had promised. He swallowed the protest down with a nod.

"Hopefully," he said, tightly. He preferred to keep realistic, but not severely so.

"I don't believe it's possible for a soul to be a ghost briefly. You can either choose to forever be a ghost, or rest." Percy looked away, out the window where the full moon was hanging against the backdrop of a dark, cloudless sky. "Although your brother can't reply back, I'm sure he's listening."

"Everything always turns out good in the end," Colin said with a smile. "Just you see," he continued on. "The vines are gone, so things are looking up!"

Colin nodded. "I know that, he's in Heaven with Nana, and Poppa and Barkey," Colin said with a smile, looking up for a moment as if he really could see Dennis before looking at Percy.

"Pretty night isn't it?" Colin asked, following Percy's gaze out the window.

Looking back at Colin, the dubious lines that furrowed in Percy's brow softened his expression into a sort of rueful resignation.

"It is," Percy answered, shifting his gaze back to the night outside. The forest almost looked tranquil, from faraway and inside. "Hopefully Tonks and Lupin are safe," he added absently, almost to himself.

Colin nodded again. "I'm sure they're fine! They probably took every single precaution that they could, and now that the vines are gone it's even better!" he said excitedly.

"So whatcha doing walking around?" he asked.

Turning from the window, Percy hitched his shoulders in a stiff shrug. "Truth be told, I really don't have a purpose," he replied. The words sounded so foreign and dismal to him, but he managed to dredge up a smile. Better to let the man be.. well, his perky self than spoil his spirits. "I suppose I just needed to get out of my room and walk."

And stop thinking, his mind tacked on.

"How about yourself?" Then, quickly, his eyes widened. He'd lost track of how long they'd been standing there, talking. "I'm not keeping you from anything important, I hope?"

"Walking is always good, people say it's the best form of exercise because it isn't bad on any part of your body," Colin said randomly, grinning at his little fact.

He shook his head. "Just walking, thinking, memories mostly. Wondering if i wanted to paint, you know, the usual stuff that runs through my mind," he said before he blinked and frowned slightly.

"Not that you would know what runs through my head...would you?" he asked slightly fearfully. He knew some people could do that freaky mind reading thing; he didn't have any secrets, but still! It was different; something the Muggle-Born in him couldn't accept even after all these years.

Relieved, Percy relaxed, if only by degrees. "Well, that's a relief. I never like to be an unwanted hindrance," he explained, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose.

"No, I'm no Legilimens, if that's what you're asking," Percy replied in his best placating tone of voice, dredging up a small smile. He could sense that was the answer Colin was hoping for, from the looks of it, but he wasn't simply telling the man that to put his mind at ease. It was true — Percy never had the time to learn that sort of magic.

"Also.. I thought you were a photographer. You paint also?"

Colin smiled widly, relaxing somewhat. "That's good," he said before frowning. "Of course it wouldn't be good if you wanted to be, but it's good for me...I think," he said confusing himself slightly.

Colin nodded. "I do photography mostly, but I don't have that much film so I'm trying to conserve. Getting paint is a lot easier," he said with a bright smile.

"I've no need to go prying into your thoughts or anyone else's," Percy reassured him. "I've enough of my own to sort out." The small smile he wore turned rueful before disappearing altogether.

"Really? I wouldn't have known paint was easy to procure." It wasn't exactly something he'd seen lying around the castle anywhere. "I read somewhere that painting is therapeutic," he recalled, distantly, from some article. "Can you attest to that?"

Colin shrugged. "You can make paint out of a lot of stuff, plants and the like. It's not as good a quality as the stuff you buy, but it works," he explained with a smile. "It's kinda time consuming but I have a lot of time so I guess it works out."

He nodded then, his eyes earnest and excited. "I paint when I get stressed, it does help, just letting what ever you're thinking of flowing out of the brush. Same as drawning and everything, Photography is a little less personal in some aspects, but it's soothing as well."

Percy looked a little on the skeptical side, but Colin's eyes were so earnest that it was difficult to tell whether he was exaggerating or not. "Well.. Perhaps I'll try it sometime," Percy said. "If I can find some paint for myself, that is. An essential part, isn't it?" The ghost of his former smile returned.

Colin grinned. "You can borrow some of mine if you'd like, I also have some canvas's and brushes, and some drawing pads if you'd rather have those," he said excited. He was eternally grateful for shrinking spells, without them he highly doubted he'd have anything of the sort for this event.

"Really?" Percy blinked owlishly from behind his horn-rimmed specs. Not accustomed to such quick kindness or generosity, Percy really was in disbelief. "I.. thank you, Colin," he said uncertainly, but smiling a little more.

Colin shrugged. "Not a problem, just lemme know when and what you want and I'll see about giving it over," he said with another beaming smile. "Just stay away from the libary, paint does not come of off those tables easily."

"I would be shocked if Miss Granger permitted painting inside the library," Percy said, more serious than amused as he gave Colin an arch look. "But.." He trailed off quietly and sort of glanced around, looking for anyone else in the hallways. "I suppose I can keep that between us."

With an awkward nod of his head, Percy straightened up again as if he hadn't just agreed to keep quiet about breaking the rules. "I'd best be on my way back to my room, now. I think I've walked enough. Mind you be careful and don't stay out wandering for too long, Colin," he intoned, and with another nod, he started off.

Colin grinned. "Good, didn't want to get into trouble," he said rocking back and fourth on his heels slightly.

Colin nodded. "You to," he said with a smile. "Bye!" he called out, waving at Percy before turning, beginning to head back to his own room.
